The Knight Building
Coming Summer of 2025 the Knight Building includes eight-bedroom, dorm-style apartments with comfortable kitchens and in-unit laundry. As part of the Buck’s campus, these units are only available to employees of the One & Only.
The Knight Building is part of the One & Only colleague housing complex at the Buck’s T4 property, located minutes from Big Sky Town Center and Big Sky Resort. The Knight Building is the first large-scale modular mass timber building in the United States. Comprised of 120 cross-laminated timber modules, the building will provide high-quality, affordable housing for 96 workers.
Integrated Design Cubed (IDCUBED), who had worked for more than a decade to bring modular mass timber to North America, developed the strategies for module assembly, utilizing processes established by their Austrian and German partners.
Produced and assembled by Kalesnikoff Mass Timber in their factory in Castlegar, British Columbia, the modules were delivered to the site with MEPFP systems, finishes, and fixtures pre-installed to reduce the overall construction timeline. The cross-laminated timber, exposed on most walls, provided for a beautiful and durable natural finish. IDCUBED designed the building and the modules, utilizing VCD/BIM technologies to plan and document all building systems in full detail, from structural connectors to plumbing subassembly components.
Mass timber's inherent precision, dramatically simplified assembly, and the integrated planning, from foundation to finish, contributed to the project's on-track delivery. Highline Partners completed all work on site, including foundations, module setting, and finishing the building. The collaborative effort of all involved has been the key to the success of the project, which will take 10 months to complete.
